For law firms
Website monitoring for law firms that phones you when the site stops answering
TrackDowntime checks your firm's homepage, contact page and intake URL from outside every 60 seconds on Professional and Enterprise. When one fails, it calls and texts every listed phone and keeps calling on a schedule until the page answers again.
Professional is $99 a month or $588 a year for 25 endpoints. Phone calls and SMS are included, with no per message charges.

What law firm website monitoring does
A law firm website monitor checks your public pages from outside your network on a fixed interval and alerts a person the moment one stops answering correctly. For a firm, the pages that matter are the homepage, the contact or consultation page, the intake form URL and the client portal login. TrackDowntime requests each URL every 60 seconds on Professional and Enterprise, then calls and texts every phone you list, repeating on a schedule until the page recovers. It judges HTTP responses and does not submit your forms, so a form that loads but fails to deliver still needs its own test.

Monitoring that reaches the lawyer who can act
Watch the pages prospective clients use, reach someone who can call the web host, and keep a record of every outage.
Checks on the pages clients use
Add the homepage, practice area pages, the consultation request page and the portal login as separate endpoints. Each is an HTTP request from outside, with nothing to install.
Calls and texts to every listed phone
Professional and Enterprise call and text every number you list. Put the managing partner, the office manager and the outside web contact on the list so an evening outage does not depend on one person.
Repeat alerts without message fees
Calls and SMS repeat at 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 minutes, then every few hours while the page stays down. Alerts are never billed per message.
Explicit redirect handling
Expect 200 and untick Follow redirects on a page that should answer directly. A redirect to a parking page or a maintenance notice then fails the check instead of passing because its destination loads.
SSL checks and response time charts
Every plan checks the SSL certificate and charts response time. A certificate that lapses shows visitors a browser warning, which is an outage to a prospective client even when the server is healthy.
A record you can hand to the web vendor
Each endpoint keeps an incident log with downtime minutes and an uptime percentage. Export CSV for a hosting dispute, or print the report for the partners.
Set up law firm website monitoring
Step 1
Add the pages that bring in clients
Start with the homepage and the consultation request page. Add practice area pages that receive paid or referral traffic and the client portal login.
Step 2
Set the expected response
Use Expected Status Code 200 for pages that answer directly and untick Follow redirects. Load each URL in a browser first to confirm it behaves that way.
Step 3
List the phones that should ring
Add the numbers of the people who can act, including someone outside the firm if a web vendor handles fixes. Every listed number gets both the call and the SMS.
Step 4
Review the record each month
Open the uptime report for each page, check downtime minutes and response times, and export CSV if you need to raise an issue with the host.
Why does a law firm website need a monitor that phones someone?
Many people looking for a lawyer have an urgent matter and call or submit a request from the first firm whose site works. A site that is down at 8 p.m. on a weeknight does not generate an angry email. It generates a prospective client who closes the tab and tries the next result.
Email alerts are easy to miss when they arrive after hours. A phone that rings, then rings again five minutes later, is hard to miss. That is the whole case for phone alerts on a firm's website. The value is not the check, which is cheap everywhere. The value is that a person learns about the outage while the outage is still running.
Your host or marketing agency may already run its own monitoring. That tells them, not you. An independent check sends the alert to the firm's own people and gives the firm its own incident history.
Which pages should a law firm monitor?
Five endpoints cover most firms.
| Endpoint | Why it matters | Suggested expected code |
|---|---|---|
| Homepage | Every referral, search click and business card lands here | 200, Follow redirects off |
| Consultation or contact page | The page that turns a visitor into a call or a request | 200 |
| Intake form URL | If forms are hosted on a separate domain or an intake tool, an outage there breaks the funnel on its own | 200 |
| Top practice area page | Usually the landing page for paid search | 200 |
| Client portal login | Existing clients notice this one first | 200 or the code the portal returns |
Starter covers exactly these five at $49 a month, with five minute checks and email, Slack and webhook alerts. Professional adds 60 second checks and calls and SMS, and raises the limit to 25 endpoints for a firm with several offices or microsites.
What an HTTP monitor cannot see on a law firm site
TrackDowntime requests a URL and judges the response code, so it tells you the page is reachable. It does not click anything.
- It does not submit your intake form, so a form that loads but sends its results nowhere will pass.
- It does not match keywords or page content, so a page that returns 200 with an error message inside will pass.
- It checks from one network, not from several regions.
- It does not run browser or multi step transaction checks.
For the form, send yourself a real test submission on a schedule and confirm it arrives. Treat that as a separate habit from uptime monitoring. Use the monitor for what it does well, which is knowing within a minute that the front door is closed.
Can an uptime monitor help with a hosting or web vendor dispute?
Yes, as one piece of evidence. Each endpoint records every failed check, the incident start and end, the downtime minutes and a response time chart. Export the incidents and checks as CSV for the same period and send them to the vendor. A record that shows three outages of 12, 19 and 41 minutes in a month is a stronger starting point than a partner remembering that the site was down on Thursday.
The same record helps with a monthly note to the partners. Our uptime report shows the uptime percentage, downtime minutes and slowest response for 24 hours, 7, 30 or 90 days.
What does law firm website monitoring cost?
Starter is $49 a month, or $288 billed yearly, for 5 endpoints at 5 minute checks with email, Slack and webhook alerts. Professional is $99 a month, or $588 yearly, for 25 endpoints at 60 second checks, 90 days of history, calls, SMS and up to 10 email recipients. Enterprise is $299 a month, or $1,788 yearly, with unlimited endpoints and unlimited history.
Cheaper tools exist, and several are good. Where the choice turns on repeating phone calls to several people with no per message meter, see our comparison of downtime alerts by phone call and the plan details.
Who needs a law firm website down alert
Solo practitioner
Put the homepage and contact page on Starter, or on Professional if you want the phone to ring when a consultation request page fails.
Managing partner of a small firm
Watch the pages that carry paid search and referral traffic, and route calls to yourself and the office manager.
Firm office manager
Own the alert list and the monthly report. Add the web vendor's number so the person who can fix it hears first.
Personal injury or family law practice
Intake often happens after hours. A call at night lets you reach the vendor before the next wave of searches.
Multi office firm
Use Professional for up to 25 endpoints, one per office page and microsite, with the right phones on the list.
Legal marketing agency
Monitor each client's site, and on Enterprise put your brand name on the reports you send.
Choose the monitoring approach that matches the risk
Hosting dashboards, browser test tools and phone alerting answer different questions. Pick based on whether you need a person woken up, a form walked end to end, or the cheapest possible check.
| Approach | Watches the public site | Phone call alerts | Submits the intake form | Plan for 5 firm URLs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Host or agency monitoring | Usually | Rarely goes to the firm | No | Often bundled |
| Browser monitoring tools | Yes | Varies by vendor | Yes, with a script | Varies by vendor |
| TrackDowntime | Yes, HTTP responses | Yes, Professional and Enterprise | No | Professional $99/mo or $588/yr, includes 25 endpoints |
Starter fits 5 URLs at $49/mo or $288/yr with five minute checks and no calls or SMS. Choose Professional for 60 second checks and phone alerts. Confirm each vendor's current capabilities before buying.
Questions law firms ask about website monitoring
How do I know if my law firm website is down?
Add the homepage and contact page to an external monitor. It requests each URL every minute and alerts you when the response fails. Without one, you usually learn about an outage from a client or a colleague, often hours later.
Does website monitoring work for a firm whose site is built and hosted by an agency?
Yes. The monitor only needs the public URL. Add your agency's number to the alert list so the people who can fix a failure hear at the same moment you do.
Can I get a phone call when my law firm website goes down?
Yes, on Professional and Enterprise. Every listed number receives a call and a text when a check fails, and both repeat on a schedule until recovery. Alerts are never billed per message.
Will the monitor test my intake or consultation form?
No. It checks that the page responds with the expected HTTP code. It does not fill in or submit forms, so test submissions remain a separate task.
How often are law firm website pages checked?
Every 60 seconds on Professional and Enterprise, and every 5 minutes on Starter. A failed check is rechecked before an alert goes out, so a single dropped request does not wake anyone.
Does the monitor store client information?
No. It requests public URLs and records the response code, response time and timestamps. It does not log into your case software or read client data.
How much does law firm website monitoring cost?
Starter is $49 a month for 5 endpoints without phone alerts. Professional is $99 a month for 25 endpoints with calls and SMS. Enterprise is $299 a month with unlimited endpoints. Yearly billing is $288, $588 and $1,788.
Can I use the incident log to hold a web host accountable?
Yes. Each endpoint keeps start and end times, downtime minutes and an uptime percentage, and you can export incidents and checks as CSV for the period.
Put a phone call behind your firm's front door
Add your homepage, contact page and intake URL. Choose Professional for 60 second checks with calls and SMS to everyone who should know.
