For teams paying per responder so a phone rings
Better Stack Alternative: Better Stack Alternatives for Uptime Monitoring With Phone Calls to the Whole Team
Better Stack puts phone call and SMS alerts on a Responder license at $34 a person each month. When two or three people need to hear about an outage at night, that fee is paid for every phone. TrackDowntime calls and texts every number on an endpoint, repeats until the site recovers, and charges by endpoint instead of by person.
Professional is $99 a month for 25 endpoints with calls and SMS to several numbers. Enterprise is $299 for unlimited endpoints. No per person or per message fees.

- None, priced by endpoint
Paste the URL, create your account, and the first check runs right away.
Which Better Stack alternative fits a team where several people take the call
If Better Stack works for you but the bill grows with every person on call, look for a monitor priced by endpoint, not by responder. Better Stack charges $34 a month per Responder license ($29 annually), and phone and SMS alerts come with that license. TrackDowntime calls, texts and emails every number on an endpoint, repeats until recovery, and costs $99 for 25 endpoints or $299 for unlimited, whoever gets the call.

What changes when you move uptime alerting off Better Stack
Better Stack is a strong platform. It bundles monitoring, on-call, status pages, logs and error tracking, and checks from several locations. Teams that leave it for uptime usually do so for one reason: the price follows headcount, and what they actually use is an HTTP check and a phone that rings.
Every number on the endpoint gets the call
Add the phone numbers that should ring, separated by commas. When a check fails, each one gets an automated call and an SMS, and the alert email goes out at the same time. Adding a third person costs nothing, because there are no seats.
Alerts that repeat until the site is back
Call, SMS and email repeat at 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 minutes, then at 2, 4, 8, 24, 48 and 96 hours while the endpoint stays down. Recovery goes out by SMS and email, so whoever woke up knows it is over.
Priced by endpoint, flat past 25
Professional covers 25 endpoints for $99 a month, or $49 a month billed yearly. Enterprise covers unlimited endpoints for $299, or $149 yearly. At 650 endpoints Enterprise costs the same as at 100.
No message credits and no seat math
Calls and texts are never metered on any plan, and there is no license per person. The bill does not change when someone joins the rotation or when an outage runs all night.
An outage record you can export
Every incident is stored with its start, end and measured duration: 30 days on Starter, 90 on Professional, no limit on Enterprise. Export the history to CSV when a client or your own SLA asks for proof.
Checks that tell a real outage from a blip
A wrong status code opens an incident on the first check. A timeout is rechecked twice, 5 seconds apart, and a DNS timeout three times, 10 seconds apart, before anyone is woken. Each endpoint has its own expected status, timeout and redirect setting.
Moving uptime checks from Better Stack in an afternoon
Step 1
List the monitors that matter at night
Open your Better Stack monitors and pick the ones where an outage costs money: checkout, login, the API base URL, each paying client's homepage. Those move first. Heartbeats, status pages and logs can stay where they are.
Step 2
Add each endpoint with its numbers
Paste the URL, set the expected status code and timeout, and enter every phone number that should ring for it. Different endpoints can call different people, which is how agencies route client sites.
Step 3
Run both side by side for a week
Keep Better Stack on while TrackDowntime checks the same URLs every 60 seconds. Compare what each one caught. Nothing about your site changes, because both check from the outside.
Step 4
Drop the licenses you no longer need
Once calls reach everyone from TrackDowntime, reduce Better Stack to the responders who still use on-call or logs there, or to the free plan for status pages. Better Stack advertises a 60 day money back guarantee on its pricing page.
How much does Better Stack cost for a team?
Better Stack's Responder license is $34 per person per month, or $29 billed annually, and it includes unlimited phone call and SMS alerts for that person. The account includes 10 monitors, and more come in packs of 50 for $25 a month ($21 annually). One person watching 25 sites pays $59 a month. Three people sharing on-call for the same 25 sites pay $127 a month, or $108 on annual billing.
That is the number most teams react to. The monitoring did not change, only the number of people who should hear about it. On TrackDowntime the same 25 endpoints with three phone numbers each are $99 a month on Professional, or $49 billed yearly. The full arithmetic at 5, 100, 300 and 650 monitors is in our Better Stack pricing breakdown.
When Better Stack is the better choice
We would rather you picked the right tool than switched and regretted it. Stay on Better Stack if you check from several locations, rely on keyword or Playwright transaction checks, publish status pages, run on-call schedules with escalation policies, or keep your logs there. None of that is something we sell.
Stay too if one person takes every alert and you run fewer than about 500 monitors on monthly billing. At that size a single $34 license with monitor packs is cheaper than our $99 Professional plan, and it does more. The case for moving is strongest when several people need calls, or you run hundreds of endpoints and would rather pay one flat price.
Does Better Stack have phone call alerts?
Yes. Better Stack includes unlimited phone call and SMS alerts with each Responder license, along with push and email. The free plan has only Slack and email alerts, with checks every 3 minutes. Calls go to responders according to on-call schedules and escalation policies you set up, which is powerful and also means each person on the rotation needs a license.
TrackDowntime takes a simpler route. There are no schedules: every number attached to an endpoint is called at once, and the calls repeat on a fixed ladder until the site recovers. That suits small teams and agencies where "whoever is awake" is the on-call policy. If you need rotations, handoffs and escalation tiers, Better Stack's on-call product is the better fit.
What you give up by moving, stated plainly
TrackDowntime checks every 60 seconds from a single location. Better Stack goes down to 30 seconds and checks from several regions. We have no status pages, no keyword or content matching, no Playwright transaction tests, no Slack or webhook alerts, no heartbeats and no on-call scheduling. Our alerts are phone call, SMS and email.
What we do instead is narrow and deliberate: an external HTTP check on each endpoint, a call to everyone who should hear about it, repeated until recovery, and an outage record with start, end and duration for every incident. If that is the part of Better Stack you actually use, you are paying for a lot you leave switched off.
Who switches from Better Stack to TrackDowntime
Small teams with two or three owners
A founder, a developer and an ops lead all want the call when the app goes down. On Better Stack that is three licenses. Here it is three numbers on the same endpoint.
Agencies watching client sites
Each client site gets its own endpoint and its own alert numbers, including the client's if they want it. Hundreds of client sites fit on Enterprise at one price.
Stores that cannot miss a night of orders
Checkout and product pages checked every 60 seconds, with every phone ringing until the store is back and the order flow is working again.
SaaS teams with an SLA to prove
Calls wake whoever can fix it, and the incident log gives start, end and duration for the monthly uptime report. Unlimited history on Enterprise, CSV export on every plan.
Teams that run hundreds of endpoints
At 650 monitors Better Stack's packs alone are $325 a month before licenses. Enterprise covers unlimited endpoints for $299, or $149 billed yearly.
People who only used the uptime part
If logs, status pages and on-call schedules sit unused, you are paying a platform price for an HTTP check and a phone call. Move that part and keep the free plan for anything else.

Questions people ask before replacing Better Stack
What is the best alternative to Better Stack?
It depends on which part of Better Stack you use. For uptime alerts to several people without per person fees, TrackDowntime calls every number on an endpoint and charges by endpoint. For full on-call with rotations, PagerDuty or incident.io fit better. For a cheap single user monitor, UptimeRobot's paid plans are hard to beat on price.
How much does Better Stack cost?
Better Stack's Responder license is $34 per person per month, or $29 billed annually, with unlimited phone calls and SMS. The account includes 10 monitors, and extra monitors are $25 per 50 each month. The free plan covers 10 monitors with email and Slack alerts. Full figures are in our Better Stack pricing breakdown.
Does Better Stack have phone call alerts?
Yes, on paid plans. Each Responder license includes unlimited phone call and SMS alerts, routed through on-call schedules and escalation policies. The free plan sends only email and Slack alerts. On TrackDowntime, phone calls start on Professional and go to every number on the endpoint with no license per person.
Is Better Stack cheaper than UptimeRobot?
For a single user, no. UptimeRobot's Solo plan costs less than one Better Stack license, and Team covers 100 monitors for about EUR 41 a month, but UptimeRobot meters calls and texts on credits. Better Stack costs more per person but its calls and SMS are unlimited. Our UptimeRobot credits breakdown shows how fast an outage uses credits.
Can I use Better Stack and TrackDowntime together?
Yes, and many teams do while they compare. Both check your URLs from outside, so running them side by side changes nothing on your servers. A common setup keeps Better Stack's free plan for a status page and heartbeats, and uses TrackDowntime for the calls that must reach several people.
How many people can get the phone call on TrackDowntime?
Every number you add to an endpoint gets the call and the SMS, with no limit per endpoint and no charge per person. Numbers are entered comma separated, and different endpoints can call different people. Calls repeat at 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30 minutes and on up to 96 hours until the site recovers.
Does TrackDowntime have status pages like Better Stack?
No. TrackDowntime does not host status pages, and it has no on-call schedules, heartbeats or log management. It does external uptime checks, repeating call, SMS and email alerts, and an outage record with start, end and duration. If status pages matter, keep them on Better Stack's free plan, which includes one.
How fast can I switch from Better Stack?
An afternoon for most teams. Add each URL with its expected status code, timeout and phone numbers, which takes about a minute per endpoint, then run both tools for a week and compare. Nothing needs to be installed on your servers, since every check runs from outside.
Let the whole team hear about the next outage
Add the URLs that matter, attach every number that should ring, and keep Better Stack running beside it for a week. The first endpoint takes about a minute.
