Comparison for teams choosing an uptime monitor

Uptime.com vs Pingdom Pricing, SMS Limits and Phone Call Alerts Compared

Uptime.com is cheaper than Pingdom at every tier both vendors publish, roughly half the price per check. Pingdom gives more advanced checks, a bigger text allowance on small plans and status pages in the price. Neither one rings several phones until the site is back without a cap, which is what TrackDowntime does.

Uptime.com or Pingdom, the short answer

Uptime.com costs about half of Pingdom for the same number of checks: $75 a month for 100 basic checks against Pingdom's $149 for 100 uptime checks, both read from the vendors' pricing pages on October 7, 2026. Uptime.com also adds phone call alerts, 24 months of history and 12 probe locations. Pingdom is the better pick if you want more transaction checks per dollar, a larger SMS allowance on small plans and public status pages included. Both cap texts each month, and only Uptime.com places calls, from the same capped pool.

Where Uptime.com and Pingdom actually differ

Both check a URL every minute, both sell transaction checks and both include unlimited users. These six differences are the ones that change a buying decision.

Price per check

Uptime.com is cheaper at every tier. 10 checks cost $9 against $18, 100 cost $75 against $149 and 1,000 cost $750 against $1,295. On annual billing Uptime.com takes about 20 percent off, Pingdom about 8 percent.

Advanced and transaction checks

Pingdom includes more of them. At 100 checks Pingdom gives 20 advanced checks and Uptime.com gives 10. A team scripting several login or checkout flows gets more for its money on Pingdom.

Phone calls

Uptime.com places voice call alerts on every tier, drawn from the monthly SMS and call allowance. Pingdom has no voice call on any tier, so a phone that rings needs a second tool.

SMS allowance

Pingdom gives more texts on small plans: 50 a month at 10 checks against 25, and 350 at 100 checks against 100. Uptime.com counts the down alert and the up alert separately for every number.

Status pages

Pingdom lists public status pages in every tier. Uptime.com sells them as an add-on starting at $13 a month for one page and 250 subscribers.

History and locations

Uptime.com keeps 24 months of check history and checks from 3 of 12 locations, with paid add-ons for up to 106. Pingdom checks from its own probe network and keeps reports in the app.

How to decide in four steps

Step 1

Count checks, not sites

Every URL, API route, SSL certificate and port is a separate check on both tools. A single SaaS product or store usually needs five to eight.

Step 2

Count transaction flows

If you script more than a handful of logins or checkouts, Pingdom's larger advanced check allowance can outweigh its higher price per check.

Step 3

Price the alert allowance

Multiply the phones that must be alerted by two messages per outage and by your worst month of outages. If that beats the tier's allowance, you are buying a bigger tier for texts.

Step 4

Run a week side by side

Add your production URLs to the tool you lean toward and keep the old one on. One real incident tells you more than any table.

Is Uptime.com better than Pingdom?

For plain uptime monitoring, Uptime.com is the better value: it costs about half as much per check, adds voice call alerts, keeps 24 months of history and runs more check types such as SMTP, NTP, UDP and WHOIS. Pingdom is better when transaction checks, page speed and Real User Monitoring are the main job, or when a status page has to come in the base price.

Several comparison sites still describe Uptime.com as the more expensive of the two. That is not what either pricing page shows today. On October 7, 2026 every published Uptime.com tier was cheaper than the Pingdom tier with the same check count, and the gap widens on annual billing.

Which is cheaper, Uptime.com or Pingdom?

Uptime.com is cheaper at every size. The table puts the two published ladders side by side with the alert allowance each tier carries, and our own price for the same number of endpoints.

Uptime.com figures come from the subscription calculator on uptime.com/pricing and Pingdom's from the price attributes on pingdom.com/pricing, both read on October 7, 2026. Uptime.com's allowance covers texts and calls together. The full ladders are in our Uptime.com pricing and SMS limits and Pingdom pricing per uptime check breakdowns.

Does Pingdom have phone call alerts?

No. Pingdom alerts by email, SMS, push notifications in its mobile app and integrations such as Slack, but no tier places an automated voice call. Teams that need a phone to ring usually add a paging or incident management tool, which is a second subscription priced per user. Our Pingdom alternative page covers what moving only the night alerts looks like while Pingdom keeps the transaction checks.

Does Uptime.com do phone call alerts?

Yes, on every tier, but calls share a capped monthly allowance with texts. Uptime.com's help center says each SMS and each call counts, for the DOWN alert and again for the UP alert, for every phone number on the contact, and the allowance resets on the 1st. Five outages to three phones uses 30 alerts, which is more than half the 50 included on the 25 check tier. More alerts means the next tier; there is no separate pack.

What each option costs a three person on-call team

Take 25 endpoints, three people who must be woken, and a bad month with eight outages. On Uptime.com that is 8 outages times 3 phones times 2 messages, or 48 alerts, just inside the 50 on the $19 tier, with no room for escalations or a second round. On Pingdom the 100 texts on the $40 tier cover the texts, and the calls need a separate paging tool with a seat for each of the three people.

On TrackDowntime Professional, $99 a month or $49 billed yearly, all three numbers get a call and a text at the first failed check and again at 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 minutes, then at 2, 4, 8, 24, 48 and 96 hours, until the endpoint recovers. Nothing is counted, so the ninth outage in a month costs the same as the first. The full schedule is on downtime alerts by phone call.

When neither Uptime.com nor Pingdom fits

Neither tool is built around the case where a short list of people must be phoned, repeatedly, until a site comes back. Both meter texts, one has no calls at all and the other counts every call against the same monthly cap. That is the gap we sell into. We are also the more expensive option for small estates, and we check from a single location with no status pages, no transaction checks and no page speed tests. If those are what you need, buy Uptime.com or Pingdom.

Where we come out ahead is scale and alerting together. Enterprise is $299 a month, or $149 billed yearly, for unlimited endpoints with downtime history that never expires, so an estate of 650 URLs that costs $562 a month on Uptime.com and $999 on Pingdom costs $299 here, with calls to every number included. The sizing math is on uptime monitor pricing.

Who ends up on which tool

Small team watching a few sites

Uptime.com. Ten checks at 1 minute for $9 a month, or $7 billed yearly, with 24 months of history, is the lowest price for 1 minute checks between the two.

Ecommerce team scripting checkout

Pingdom. It includes twice the advanced checks per tier, and transaction checks on login and checkout are the reason to pay its price.

Team that needs a public status page

Pingdom, which lists status pages in every tier. On Uptime.com add at least $13 a month. We do not offer status pages.

Engineers who need many check types

Uptime.com, for SMTP, IMAP, NTP, UDP, WHOIS, blacklist and malware checks, plus 12 probe locations.

Small team on a night rota

TrackDowntime Professional. Calls and texts to every number on the endpoint, repeating until recovery, with no monthly cap to run out of.

Agency with hundreds of client URLs

TrackDowntime Enterprise, $299 flat for unlimited endpoints, where 750 checks cost $562 on Uptime.com and $999 on Pingdom.

Questions people ask when comparing Uptime.com and Pingdom

Is Uptime.com cheaper than Pingdom?

Yes, at every published tier. Uptime.com is $9 a month for 10 checks against Pingdom's $18, $75 for 100 against $149, and $750 for 1,000 against $1,295. Annual billing widens the gap, because Uptime.com discounts about 20 percent and Pingdom about 8 percent.

Is Pingdom free?

No. Pingdom offers a free trial but no free plan. The lowest paid tier is $18 a month, or $16.50 a month billed yearly, for 10 uptime checks, 1 advanced check and 50 SMS alerts a month.

Does Uptime.com have a free plan?

No free plan is listed on Uptime.com's pricing page. The entry tier is $9 a month, or $84 a year, for 10 basic checks, 1 advanced check and 25 SMS and call alerts a month, with a 30 day guarantee on paid plans.

Which has better alerts, Uptime.com or Pingdom?

Uptime.com, because it places voice calls and Pingdom does not. Both cap texts each month by tier, and Uptime.com also draws calls from that cap, counting down and up alerts for every number. Pingdom gives more texts on small tiers, 50 against 25 at 10 checks.

Can Pingdom call my phone when my site is down?

Not by itself. Pingdom alerts by email, SMS, mobile push and integrations, with no voice call on any tier. A ringing phone needs a separate paging tool or a monitor that calls, such as TrackDowntime Professional, which calls every number on the endpoint until it recovers.

What happens when the Uptime.com SMS allowance runs out?

Texts and calls stop for the rest of the month until the allowance resets on the 1st. Uptime.com's pricing FAQ points customers who need more to the next tier, since there is no separate SMS pack, so a team can end up buying more checks to get more alerts.

Which tool is better for agencies with many client sites?

Uptime.com is cheaper than Pingdom per check at every size, but both bills grow with every client URL. Past roughly 400 checks on monthly billing, a flat plan is cheaper: TrackDowntime Enterprise is $299 a month for unlimited endpoints, covered on our website monitoring for agencies page.

Can I run TrackDowntime alongside Uptime.com or Pingdom?

Yes, and many teams start that way. Keep transaction checks and status pages where they are, add your critical URLs here with the on-call numbers, and let us handle the calls. Moving more later is copying URLs and expected status codes.
