Pingdom vs StatusCake Pricing, SMS Limits and Phone Call Alerts Compared
StatusCake Superior covers 100 uptime monitors for $24.49 a month, Pingdom charges $149 for 100 checks. What Pingdom adds for the money, how SMS and calls work on each, and when neither fits.
By TrackDowntime
Put an endpoint under monitoring
Email, Slack and webhook alerts on every plan, phone call and SMS from Professional. Plans from $49 a month.
Pingdom and StatusCake both watch websites and APIs and alert you when they stop answering, but they price that job very differently. StatusCake Superior costs $24.49 a month, or $20.41 billed yearly, for 100 uptime monitors at 1 minute checks. Pingdom charges $149 a month, or $136.42 yearly, for 100 uptime checks. For the same 100 URLs, Pingdom costs about six times as much.
What Pingdom adds for that money is depth: transaction checks that script a login or a checkout, public status pages in every plan, unlimited users and an optional Real User Monitoring product. StatusCake answers with page speed, domain, SSL and server monitors bundled into the same plan. Neither one keeps phoning your team until an outage ends. Which is cheaper, Pingdom or StatusCake?
StatusCake is cheaper at every size above 10 monitors, and by a wide margin. Pingdom prices per uptime check on a slider, so its bill grows almost in a straight line: about $1.49 per check at 100 and $1.41 at 300. StatusCake sells two fixed bundles, which makes its price per monitor fall sharply as you fill them.
| Monitors you need | Pingdom, monthly | StatusCake, monthly | TrackDowntime, monthly |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | $18 ($16.50 yearly) | Free plan, or $24.49 for 1 minute checks | $99 ($49 yearly), with calls |

The only size where Pingdom costs less is 10 checks with 1 minute intervals, $18 against $24.49, and only if you would not use the other 90 StatusCake monitors. Our flat plans are not the cheapest option under 300 monitors either, and we would rather say that here. Where TrackDowntime wins on price is above 300 endpoints, where Pingdom runs into hundreds of dollars and StatusCake moves to a quote. Every Pingdom tier is in our Pingdom pricing breakdown, and the StatusCake plans and add-ons are in our StatusCake pricing guide.
Is Pingdom better than StatusCake?
Pingdom is better when you need to test what happens after the page loads. Its advanced checks script multi step journeys such as logging in or adding an item to a cart, and a ten person team shares one account without paying per seat. Status pages come with every plan rather than as a second subscription.
StatusCake is better when you need many URLs watched for little money. Superior covers 100 uptime monitors plus 15 page speed tests, 50 domain monitors, 50 SSL monitors and 3 server monitors for $24.49, and Business adds 30 second checks, 9 team members and an audit log. If you never script a checkout, you are paying Pingdom for a feature you will not open.
Does Pingdom or StatusCake call your phone?
Pingdom does not. It alerts by email, SMS and push notifications to its mobile app, and passes alerts on to tools like Slack through integrations. A phone that actually rings needs a second product, usually a paging or incident management tool with its own per seat price.
StatusCake does, once. Phone calls are an integration attached to a contact group, and StatusCake's knowledge base says repeat alerts do not apply to calls. You get one call when a test goes down, and the account places at most one call every 5 minutes even when several tests fail together. SMS alerts do not repeat either. Email and mobile push do.
Both designs stop a large outage from flooding phones. Both also leave the night shift with a single chance: one text or one call, and if it is missed, nothing else rings until the next down event. That gap is the reason phone call downtime alerts on TrackDowntime go to every number on the endpoint and repeat at 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 minutes, then at 2, 4, 8, 24, 48 and 96 hours, until a check passes.
How SMS alerts are counted on each
Pingdom bundles a monthly SMS allowance that grows with the tier: 50 texts at 10 checks, 100 at 25, 350 at 100 and 500 at 300, capped at 1,500 on the largest plans. Each text to each phone counts. A three person rota that gets five texts per incident uses 15 alerts per outage, so the entry tier covers three outages a month.
StatusCake gives 75 free SMS credits a month on Superior and 400 on Business, one credit per text, with more for sale inside the app. Because its texts do not repeat, a three person team uses 3 credits per incident and rarely runs short. The trade is the same as with calls: the allowance lasts because each person only hears about the outage once.
Pingdom vs StatusCake for agencies and teams
Seats decide more agency purchases than check counts. Pingdom's unlimited users means every developer and account manager can log in on the $40 tier. StatusCake Superior includes a single team member, so an agency of three or more lands on Business at $79.99, which is still about half the Pingdom price for 100 checks.
Status pages swing it the other way. Pingdom includes public status pages in every tier. StatusCake sells them separately: Bronze at $14.95 a month for 1 page, Silver at $49.95 for 5 and Gold at $249.96 for 10. An agency on StatusCake Business with five client status pages pays $129.94 a month, against $149 for 100 checks on Pingdom with pages included.
StatusCake also asks for notice. Its subscriptions auto renew, and its pricing FAQ points to clause 8 of its terms, which asks customers to cancel at least 70 days before the renewal date. Agencies that juggle a dozen SaaS renewals tend to keep those dates in contract management software rather than in someone's memory, because a missed notice window buys another year.
What neither tool does, and what we do instead
Pingdom and StatusCake are built to tell you a site is down. Neither is built to make sure somebody is awake to fix it. If your last missed outage came down to one text or one call nobody heard, the problem is not the check, it is the alert path.
TrackDowntime Professional costs $99 a month, or $49 billed yearly, for 25 endpoints at 60 second checks. When one fails, every number on that endpoint gets a call and a text, and both repeat 15 times until recovery, with nothing metered and no allowance to run out. Enterprise is $299, or $149 yearly, for unlimited endpoints. Each downtime is stored with its start, end and measured duration for 90 days on Professional and with no limit on Enterprise, with CSV export.
We are narrower than either vendor. We check HTTP and HTTPS endpoints, response time, DNS and SSL expiry from a single location. There are no transaction checks, no page speed tests, no status pages, no keyword match and no public API. Alerts go out by phone call, SMS, email, a Slack channel and a signed webhook. If you need scripted checkouts, stay with Pingdom. If you need 100 cheap monitors and one person reads the alerts, StatusCake is the better buy.
Which one should you choose?
- Choose StatusCake if price per monitor decides it, you want page speed, domain and server checks in the same plan, and one person reads the alerts.
- Choose Pingdom if you need transaction checks, unlimited users or status pages without a second subscription, and you have a separate paging tool for nights.
- Choose TrackDowntime if the outage you are trying to prevent is the one nobody answered, two or three people must be phoned until the site is back, or you run more than 300 endpoints.
If you are still shortlisting, our StatusCake vs UptimeRobot comparison prices the other common pairing, and the Pingdom alternative page covers teams leaving Pingdom over calls and cost.
